Adventures in Social Media for an Artists' Cooperative
For a non-profit organization, the idea of “free” is an attractive prospect.
And free marketing, even more so. This is the story of one non-profit’s journey into the new territory of social media and the impact it had on their traditional approach to advertising. Using freely available online social media tools and volunteer savvy, The Blackberry Artist's Society of Port Moody has boosted its web presence and is seeing the results of improved outreach into the community.
Amanda Maxwell is a mixed media artist/jewellery designer, living and working in Port Moody. She set up and maintains the local artists’ cooperative social media network, writing regular blog posts feeding into Twitter, Facebook, and customer email lists. She also blogs about the challenges of finding midlife work/life balance in, around and in spite of her family. Amanda is enrolled in the Print Futures: Professional Writing diploma at Douglas College, and works around a husband, son, cat and hamster at home.
