Blogging to Inspire: Where Dreams, Intention and Community Meet
Inspirational blogs are an increasingly popular format. They help readers (and writers) to reflect on what really matters, get in touch with their authentic selves and bring a little hit of joy into their day. The idea of inspiring others can feel a little bit intimidating, though. We're all on our own journeys, and we all have our own stuff to work on. How do you build community, create connections, help others find a greater sense of purpose and maintain a sense of honesty about life? How do you effectively use multi-media tools like audio, video and images? And what inspires someone to create an inspirational blog?
Join Vancouver bloggers Samantha Reynolds, Amber Strocel, and Crystal Stranaghan, as they discuss their different approaches to inspiration. Hear how they reach out and connect with others, create a safe space online, and stay honest about the realities of life. They'll talk about the different ways that readers can draw inspiration from blogs and social media, and share how they find inspiration themselves. Do you want to make a real difference in someone else's life through your blog? This session will give you some food for thought, as well as help you create your own inspirational blogging toolkit.
Amber Strocel is a writer, dreamer, social media evangelist and problem-solver. She lives in the Vancouver suburbs with her two children and her husband. In her extremely rare and precious free time she gardens, attempts handcrafts and eats rather a lot of chocolate. She chronicles her life on her blog at Strocel.com, which she has been writing since May 2003. Through blogging, she has found inspiration and support, leading her to create an online course for mothers called Crafting my Life. Her experiences have made her believe in the power of social networking to bring people together. She also works as the Content Manager for VancouverMom.ca, helping connect local moms with this fabulous city.
In 2011, Samantha Reynolds pledged to write one poem a day to try to “be present” and not miss the fleeting first year of her son’s life. Now she wouldn’t know how to stop even if she wanted to. Her popular poetry blog, bentlily.com has sparked a movement of people around the world to slow down and savour their lives. When not racking up reams of poetry, she runs Echo Memoirs, a publishing company specializing in personal memoirs and company histories. She counts her blessings as a mom and wife to two of the loveliest men in the world. She lives in Vancouver, BC.
