Cupcake Feminism: Why Pinterest is more than just Reddit for girls

PIN-sanity! You can't read a social media stream without seeing something about Pinterest; whether it's talking about click through rates, why it is so popular with middle aged women, or the latest brand campaigns targeted towards women.

But is Pinterest being written off as a site for the ladies?

As consumers, users, and marketers, we don't often think about the societal impacts of social networking - especially when it's something as simple as looking at photos of cupcakes.

This talk will serve as a starting point for a discussion about the role of women in technology. Using Pinterest as a lens to explore various feminist theories, we'll discuss how marketers are adapting their social media marketing based on the "othering" of Pinterest as a "Reddit for girls."
