Democratizing Political Discussion, part of the Democratizing Media panel
Democratize.ca makes it easy for politicos and citizens to access accurate information about individual proposed parliamentary bills. As well as replacing government and media gate-keepers and ensuring accurate information about legislation, the site encourages crowd-sourcing and interactivity through a mechanism to indicate and tally support or opposition to bills and through comments. People can track riding-by-riding support for bills. The site also makes it easy for visitors to share information through social media and will soon also allow comments on individual sections of bills. Marguerite will share the lessons learned from democratizing access to important public information and how social media can help get the message out, as well as build web visitors.
