  1. Is this FAQ a bit too long?

    Yep, but we have a lot of information. If you still don't see what you're looking for, email us.

  2. Can we podcast / blog / photograph this?

    Of course! This is a blog conference! The conference doesn't do "official" video recording or podcasting, but participants are free to blog, podcast and videoblog! The only thing we ask is to check with parents before photographing or videoblogging their children.

  3. Can you recommend some hotels?

    Unfortunately we don't know of any good cheap hotels near the W2 location. Please let us know if you find any and we'll add them to the where to stay page.

  4. How do I become a sponsor at Northern Voice?

    We love sponsors! We welcome your participation. Email us at sponsors AT northernvoice.ca for adoration and more information.

  5. How much does attendance cost?

    $75 for both days, or $40 for each of Friday and Saturday. The party is extra. For more details, see the registration page.

  6. If I'm a speaker, will Northern Voice pay my travel expenses/hotel costs/honorarium?

    Northern Voice is a community-based, non-profit event that can't cover speaker expenses or offer speakers an honorarium, but we will have coffee available whenever you need it.

  7. Is Northern Voice another geek conference?

    No, only a small portion of our program is technical, with much of the focus on social and cultural aspects of blogging. There are plenty of sessions suitable for non technical people.

  8. Should I register in advance?

    We sold out in advance in 2006 - 2011 and nearly sold out in advance in 2005 so... yeah.

  9. What if I register but can't attend? What's the refund policy?

    Sorry, no refunds. But you can give the ticket (or sell it) to someone else - just email us at least 4 days in advance so we can change the name on the ticket.

  11. When and where is Northern Voice 2012 taking place?

    Northern Voice 2012 takes place June 15th and 16th, 2012 in Vancouver, BC, Canada. It is being held at the W2 building. W2, 111 W Hastings St, Vancouver, British Columbia.

  1. Who is Northern Voice for?

    Bloggers (including text bloggers, videobloggers, podcasters, and photobloggers and of course people on Facebook, Pinterest, Ravelry, MySpace, Twitter, etc.) people interested in becoming bloggers and those keen to learn more about personal publishing, social media, the read/write web and Web 2.0.

  2. Why is the conference so cheap?

    We're not out to make money, and we're community-minded. The feedback from previous years is that attendees got far more value out of Northern Voice than the price reflects. That's our goal, and that's why we do it.

  3. Why isn't Northern Voice free?

    It's a community-based and non-profit event, and, in an ideal world, the conference would be free. However, there are some basic costs that we need to cover. These include venue rental, audio/video, food and refreshments, printing of schedules and signs, etc. We made a budget and set the price as low as we could while still covering our anticipated costs.

  4. Will there be WiFi at Northern Voice?

    Is the Pope German :-) ? Yes!

  5. What About Child Care?

    We apologize but this year we will not be able to provide a room for child services.
