Using the Internet to Save the Internet: From Slacktivism to Interactivism

Recent threats to the Internet have changed the face of online activism in Canada and, as a result, changed the conversation about what the Internet means for society. Managing Director Reilly Yeo will show how non-activists with an interest in the web and social media have successfully come together with activists to change current and proposed government policies and priorities, and democratize the digital policy-making process. Reilly will explain why anyone who cares about the Internet needs to pay attention - and how they can get involved at varying degrees of commitment.


Reilly Yeo is the Managing Director of Reilly is an organizer, facilitator and writer with over 10 years experience in the not-for-profit sector. Her diverse professional background includes work with Amnesty International, The Walrus magazine, Rights & Democracy, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Canada's World project at the SFU Centre for Dialogue. Reilly has Masters degrees in comparative politics and English literature, and combines her love of the Internet with a love of the printed word and oral storytelling. She is a specialist in online communications on complex issues.
