Northern Voice 2012

Personal Blogging and Social Media Conference
June 15th and 16th, 2012 in Vancouver, BC

We Like to Have Fun
Inside our workshops and seminars, you’ll be treated to plenty of laughs and good times. But in between sessions and at the Northern Voice party, you can hang out with very cool people – your fellow attendees and our speakers – who know how to have a good time.
We’re Good Value
Since our first un-conference, a Northern Voice ticket has always been one of the best values in town. Our basic ticket price has never gone over $100 – and if you reserve an early-bird special, you save even more.
We Like to Share Knowledge
At our keynotes, seminars and Moosecamps, learn everything you ever wanted to know about blogging but were afraid to ask. The learning that goes on outside of the sessions can be just as valuable, too.
We Like to Tell Stories
Personal blogging is about instantly connecting your voice with an audience. Our participants are into food, fiction, fashion, technology – pretty much any niche you can name.
We've Been Around A Long Time
Northern Voice began in Vancouver in 2005 as an informal, accessible personal blogging conference for techies and newbies alike. That makes our conference one of the first social media conferences in the universe.

We're On The Google Plus

Oh, Lord... Oh, Looooord. We have done it again. I know, terrible, right? We've gone ahead and joined yet another social media system! First it was blogging and then micro-blogging with Twitter - we then had the audacity to join that social network that I am sure all of you know.

But we neglected poor Google Plus. Or is it Google+? In either case, we've rocked and rolled it up with the Google power house to share with the world everything that we are doing. Why not join our circles and get involved in helping make this event the best we've ever done.

Hope to see you at the conference and, hey, if you haven't already, perhaps you want to stand up in front of people and talk about what it is that you are doing with your own personal expression online. Submit today!

A Northern Voice Retrospective

Just caught this awesome video of Northern Voice 2009 showing off the spirit of the moose. Yup... 2009 -- and we've actually been around since 2005, making our social media-themed (un)conference the longest-running one in Western Canada. The glory constinues in June 2012!

Northern Voice 2012 Wants Your Speaker Submission

Northern Voice 2010 - Chris MessinaComing to Northern Voice 2012? Do you have an awesome topic for a speaker presentation or panel all ready to go? Then send it in by April 1, 2012 and you could have the chance to share your wit and wisdom with bloggers, tweeps, creative storytellers and an assortment of cool geeks and non-geeks.

If you've never presented or never attended previous Northern Voice conferences, you may be wondering what sort of presentation we're looking for. This conference is about personal voice and it's aimed at non-professionals. We've had presentations on ethics and the social web, how to edit Wikipedia articles, the tasty rewards of food blogging, the gender divide of parenting blogs, propagandizing online, awesome-izing your podcast and many more aspects of digital expression.

Northern Voice 2012 at W2 in Downtown Vancouver

Woodward's W signNorthern Voice, the most awesome personal blogging and social media conference in the history of, um, awesomeness, returns to Vancouver. It's happening June 15 and 16 at the W2 Community Media Arts facility in downtown Vancouver.

The big news this year, as you probably noticed from the paragraph above: we're switching venues. UBC has been a great host for our event, but this time we wanted to have something a bit more central for our attendees. W2 aims to "connect people and ideas through its globally networked community media arts centre" -- which fits quite snugly with our own goal of highlighting personal voices told through sharing technology.

We're looking forward to getting speaker submissions and will soon have all of the info about submission guidelines up, but in the meantime, we can tell you that April 1 will be the deadline to submit your speaker or panel proposal. We're also going to have Moosecamp again.

We're all looking forward to another awesome (un)conference with fellow creatives, techies and other assorted cool people. It's good to be back.
